Course Description

This course explains basic financial mathematics including the Simple and Compound Interest, the formula of the future value of an amount invested now at a given rate of interest, the formula to determine how much to invest today given a rate of interest and frequency of payment in order to achieve a required amount, as well as it elaborates on Fundamental and Technical Analysis. It also elaborates on Profitability, Debt, Liquidity and Investment Ratios.

Fundamental analysis involves the valuation of a company based on quantitative and qualitative factors. Technical analysis involves the valuation of a company or market based on historical price and volume data.

This course elaborates on the Gordon Growth Model that is used to identify theoretical price of a company’s shares by discounting the company’s expected flow of future dividends.

It provides an introduction to AIF regulatory framework and the legislation of the Alternative Investment Managers Directive (AIFMD), as well as it explains in brief the Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM) legislation in Cyprus and the information to be provided to CySEC for the authorisation of an AIFM. The AIFM Law in Cyprus was put into force on July 5, 2013, transposing the AIFMD into national Cypriot legislation. The AIFM law applies to Cypriot AIFMs managing one or more EU or non-EU AIFs, EU AIFMs managing one or more EU or non-EU AIFs, Non-EU AIFMs managing one or more EU AIFs and Non-EU AIFMS managing one or more EU or non-EU AIFs.

This course also elaborates in the main categories of Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) and provides an economic and investment analysis. It explains the main fundamental drivers and interest rates, as well the inflation and the major drivers of demand-side inflation.

Inflation refers to the change in the price level of a country. It is determined by the forces of supply and demand ans it is calculated on the basis of a weighted basket of the most commonly bought goods and services in an economy whose price is tracked across time, usually on a monthly basis.

Furthermore, this course elaborates on retirement planning. Funds needed for retirement are likely to come from a combination of pensions, savings, investments and other assets. It refers to the different types of pension products, as well as the main protection areas on a retirement plan.
